Conference ticket deal closing fast

Just a few days left to take advantage of early bird registration for the 2012 Ontario Writers’ Conference. After December 24, you’ll have to pay full price if you want to attend the May 5 event.

The conference got its start in May 2008 as an outgrowth of the Writers’ Community of Durham Region. It has since become a separate, independent entity focused on the annual event.

The 2012 Conference will be held at the Deer Creek Golf & Banquet Facility in Ajax (our hometown, by the way, and a lovely community that now boasts facilities for out-of-town guests).

Led by honorary patron Wayson Choy, a member of the Order of Canada and award-winning author, the conference will offer a mix of educational workshops, panels, round tables and mentoring sessions.

Workshops will cover a range of topics, including research, dialogue, revising, pitching and pacing. Luncheon speaker is Douglas Gibson, with Robert J. Sawyer, Susan Lynn Reynolds and Adrienne Kerr providing lectures on buzz creation, quick writing and the changing marketplace.

CTV’s Paula Todd will wrap up the day as closing speaker.

Registration info is available at the conference website.
